Buildings and Construction   Market Research

As with many sectors, it’s an interesting time for construction and the UK house building sector with many experts unsure as to what the future really holds concerning house building, property prices and the impact of leaving the EU.

The housing shortage is given plenty of airtime and its widely recognised that around a quarter of a million new homes are required to be built each year to address our chronic housing shortage, but with current rates lagging well behind this, and demand continuing to outstrip supply, what are the implications and what do  suppliers and UK house builders need to know for 2019 and beyond? And what about the repercussions for those brands and suppliers feeding into the market, the tradespeople, plumbers, electricians, heating suppliers, flooring suppliers etc?

Regardless of the supply chain, the researchers at Eureka! get excited about gathering customer and stakeholder expectations and innovation in pretty much any construction related sector.   We work with brands and suppliers to better understand the market and its customers and suppliers.

We keep our finger on the pulse and you will regularly see us at  construction industry shows and events keeping up with the latest trends and new product launches.

1. Specification professionals in construction supply chain

Depth interviews with supply chain decision makers

Last year, the Marketing Team at Polypipe Building Services, previously known as   Polypipe Terrain,   asked us to conduct research into how professionals in commercial drainage specification roles use information and media channels in their jobs.

The best way to get a detailed picture of real-life behaviour was to set up a programme of qualitative in-depth interviews.  Notoriously a challenging group to engage, we set up    depth interviews with Senior Consultant PH Engineers, M&E Contractors and Main Contractors.  This gave us a wide range of perspectives from across the UK supply chain.

The results of this research are now helping guide the team at Polypipe review their website content and shape how technical data is best made available in a customer-friendly way during the Specification process.  A new ‘Technical Hub’ that customers can visit will be made available in coming months in 2019.

2. Reviewing the market and expectations regarding workwear

Series of focus groups with trades to assess the current workwear market and review potential NPD

We ran a series of qualitative sessions with a range of tradespeople (e.g. builders, electricians, joiners, roofers, etc) to assess  usage and attitudes to workwear generally and to review the products that are currently on the market.

After an extensive review of competitors within each category we widened the scope to review a series of potential new entrants to the market within each category. Our client gained valuable insight on the market, competitors an d their own products allowing them to  further refine and develop prior to release to market.
