Using local consultation to support grassroots sports expansion

February 1, 2017

Eureka! Research are proud to be supporting grassroots sport by bringing their community engagement experience to the table in Birmingham and Worcestershire.  A local consortium, including Alvechurch FC and Birmingham City FC Community Trust, have recently acquired a long term lease on a new 20 acre site.  As part of these ambitious expansion plans, we have recently designed and managed a survey consultation with local parents and members of the youth section.

An excellent response rate of over 60% was achieved across age groups ranging from mini soccer Under 8 teams up to the Under 18 category.  The club now has evidence around future user demand, physical activity levels, perceptions of current facilities and journey times.  This information will be used to assist in planning applications for the forthcoming redevelopment and help shape future strategic priorities for the football club as a whole.

Richard Thorndike, Alvechurch Football Club Chairman, comments “Eureka have injected an entirely professional approach into our development plans for the new site.  This will enable the club to work effectively with the local authority and other stakeholders and demonstrate the demand that exists out there for improved sporting facilities.  Eureka understand the sport context and are clearly highly skilled in their field – I can’t recommend them enough!”
